The average New Zealand sale price for October remained steady at $379,290.

Mortgagee listings on realestate.co.nz and trademe.co.nz surged 10.6% to a record 489 in the week to November 10 from the previous week, and are up 25.1% from a month ago, the interest.co.nz weekly survey has found.

Land covenants and successors in title
At a recent NZLS seminar on easements and covenants, a query was raised as to whether the words "inter partes" in section 90F of the Land Transfer Act 1952 ("LTA") mean that a land covenant created by easement instrument under s307 of the Property Law Act 2007 ("PLA") binds only the original parties and therefore does not bind successors in title. Thomas Gibbons, a partner at McCaw Lewis Chapman in Hamilton, and one of the co-presenters of that seminar, followed up that query in LawTalk issue 719.

Building and Housing Trends: April to June 2008
The Department of Building and Housing has recently released its Building and Housing Trends publication for April to June 2008. In its "stop press" section, the department states that "trends that were evident in the June 2008 quarter have strengthened during July and August. In particular, the housing market has continued to slow, residential building consent activity has continued to reduce, and rental market conditions are more relaxed."
